Report: The highly regarded RTX 4090 GPU will no longer be produced by Nvidia

Nvidia unveiled its Ampere and Ada Lovelace GPUs in 2020 and 2022 at the same week in September, but it doesn't seem the business will be duplicating that effort. Although it frustrates those who want to upgrade, it appears like an Nvidia launch is at least imminent. A recent source claims that Nvidia will start to phase out production of its flagship RTX 4090 GPU in October. This suggests that the release of its replacement won't be too far off.

Some people are hopeful that the RTX 50-series will come soon because Nvidia originally said it will do it in 2025, defying the company's two-year release schedule. However, according to Wccftech, a recent article on the Chinese website Board Channels claims Nvidia is discontinuing manufacture of the RTX 4090 and its Chinese equivalent, the RTX 4090D, starting next month. With this change, partners will have one final opportunity to order cards for retail channels; once those are sold, that will be the last thing she wrote for the 4090.

Seeing as how much larger the RTX 5090 is than the 4090—which is already too large in certain situations—will be intriguing. Regards: Nvidia

Although the death of the RTX 4090 has not been officially confirmed, the timing seems appropriate given that Nvidia is expected to unveil Blackwell GeForce at CES in January. By stopping manufacturing now, Nvidia's partners will have the holiday season to shift its current stock and start the new year with empty shelves ready to be stocked with pricey, new GPUs.

It's strange that Nvidia didn't release any new GPUs during the holiday shopping season. AMD, however, isn't anticipated to reveal any new GPUs until CES. Considering its recent achievements in the data center, Nvidia's gaming revenue is definitely not a major issue. Gaming is probably losing importance for the corporation as evidenced by the $2.9 billion it made from gaming in the most recent quarter and the $26.3 billion it made from its server cards.

Although there's not much information available regarding the next RTX 5090 and 5080 GPUs, Nvidia seems determined to push power consumption above the 40-series threshold. The cards may require a little more juice than Ada Lovelace, depending on which rumor you believe. Although they are just early speculations and probably wild guesswork, the 5090 is predicted to provide a 70% boost over the 4090 overall, while the 5080 will outperform the 4090 in ray tracing.
